Greenberg Traurig’s Philadelphia Office Hosts Blaine Students, Supporting Ongoing Relationship

PHILADELPHIA – May 16, 2023 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP recently hosted students from the James G. Blaine School at the firm’s Philadelphia office, as part of an ongoing relationship with the school.

On May 9, seventh and eighth graders from Blaine visited the office to experience a day in the life of a large law firm in the city. Panel discussions with business staff, litigators and transactional lawyers, an office tour, pizza lunch, writing reflections, and a visit to VUE at 50 with a bird’s eye view of Philadelphia filled the day.

Labor & Employment Practice Associate Malcolm James Ingram, a local liaison for the firm’s African-American affinity group, served as the host for the day and noted that many students in attendance had not previously interacted with a lawyer prior to their arrival.

“This visit was a chance for students who are nearing adulthood to see possibilities for their lives and careers, and I was proud to be able to support that,” Ingram said. “I am grateful to Greenberg Traurig for this commitment to social action and the continuing role our relationship with Blaine has created for the students and staff.

In 2020, Greenberg Traurig connected with the North Philadelphia school through Read by 4th, a citywide public-private effort to increase literacy rates for school-aged children. It is the first law firm in Philadelphia to participate in this campaign. Through a regular series of paired, virtual bi-weekly 30-minute reading sessions with students throughout the school year, Greenberg Traurig volunteers help boost student confidence, enrich vocabulary, and improve literacy rates. In the years since, the firm has reinforced this relationship with other opportunities such as school supply drives, Career Day visits, educational field trips, pizza parties, and more.

“If you can see it, you can be it, and we are providing these bright students with fun and educational opportunities to expand their professional horizons,” Ingram added.

In his practice, Ingram represents employers in workplace law matters, including internal investigations, and virtually all phases of employment litigation. He also defends employers in matters related to ADA, FMLA, Title VII, FLSA, and trade secrets before federal courts, state courts, and administrative agencies.
