NEW YORK – July 22, 2019 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP represented Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) in its recently announced affiliation with Stony Brook Medicine. The acquisition became official as of July 1, after four years of negotiating regulatory approval.
The multi-office Greenberg Traurig team that represented ELIH was led by Shareholder Whitney Magee Phelps in Albany, New York. She was assisted by shareholders Mindy B. Leathe in Miami, Benjamin M. ELIH was founded in 1905 and the first hospital in Suffolk County, New York. ELIH will now be referred to as Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH), and will work collaboratively with Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital to increase specialized outpatient services. The hospitals in the Stony Brook Medicine healthcare system will work together to address healthcare gaps for East End, New York residents, including specialty areas such as trauma, neurology, psychiatry, gynecology, pulmonology, hematology/oncology, and orthopedic services.
