WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 3, 2014) – The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP has added real estate finance shareholder Susan E. D. Neuberg to its Real Estate Practice. Neuberg will reside in the firm’s New York and Washington, D.C. offices. This is the latest strategic addition in Washington D.C., which recently saw several high-profile additions, including a team of 13 added just in the past 60 days. Neuberg previously worked at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP.
“Our strategies are all about making the strong even stronger, so that our clients reap the benefits of truly top tier quality and service as well as an extraordinary level of value in the areas on which we focus," said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Greenberg Traurig’s Chief Executive Officer. “While we are already known for our dominant real estate practice in the United States and beyond, Susan will be an important addition to our team both in Washington and New York and will bolster our real estate finance practice firmwide.”
“We are very excited that Susan chose to join our team,” said Robert J. Ivanhoe, chair of the 200+ lawyer Global Real Estate Practice, and co-chair of the REIT group at Greenberg. “Susan’s experience will enhance the capabilities of our award-winning practice and better address clients’ needs on a global scale.” Prior to returning to private practice, Neuberg served as corporate counsel for Citigroup (successor to Travelers Insurance Company), where she was Assistant Deputy General Counsel for the Investment Management and Recovery Group at Travelers Realty Investment Company, and the Alternative Investments Group at Citigroup Global Investments in New York. She is experienced in structuring, negotiating, and documenting investment debt and equity finance transactions, including all aspects of distressed debt and underperforming loans, for global financial institutions and alternative investors. Her clients include multi-national banks, investment banks, life companies, CMBS portfolio managers and servicers, private equity and pension funds, as well as borrowers, owners and developers.
“Greenberg Traurig’s deep bench strength, reputation, geographic reach, and culture of collaboration allowed me to make a move that is a win-win for me and for my clients,” Neuberg said.
Neuberg is an accomplished transactional attorney who focuses her practice on complex real estate finance matters, structured debt transactions and derivative products. She has worked on numerous debt and equity transactions and has wide ranging business and legal experience in a broad array of real estate, real estate finance, real estate workouts and capital markets transactions. Neuberg counsels clients in the financial services and real estate industries on debt and equity ventures, the transfer and sale of servicing rights, and securitized lending practices, as well as Dodd-Frank and other financial regulatory reform, including RegAB, FDIC loss-share arrangements, the servicing of non-performing REMIC collateral and bankruptcy remote entities, investor reporting and rating agencies criteria.
She earned her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she was the Executive Editor of the Cardozo Law Review and a founding member of the Cardozo Women’s Annotated Legal Bibliography. She earned an A.M. from Stanford University and a Certificate in Cuban Law and Legal Institutions from the Center for Cuban Studies at New York University School of Law. A frequent author and speaker at industry forums, she is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Connecticut and in New York, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
“This is a great opportunity to integrate my practice with the clients and relationships that Greenberg Traurig and I have represented over the years. I am very excited about being a part of the Greenberg Traurig team,” said Neuberg, who began her career as a real estate lawyer in New York with the Proskauer firm.
