Greenberg Traurig Advises HOWOGE on Acquisition of KONNEKT Project / Georg-Knorr-Park in Berlin

BERLIN – Dec. 20, 2024 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig provided advice to HOWOGE Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH (HOWOGE) on the acquisition of the KONNEKT / Georg-Knorr-Park project in Berlin-Marzahn. The approximately 11-hectare site was sold by Laborgh Investment GmbH and Kondor Wessels.

The KONNEKT / Georg-Knorr-Park project is one of the largest urban development projects in Berlin expected in the coming years. It will feature around 1,700 apartments with a rentable living space of approximately 107,000 square meters and about 24,500 square meters of commercial space, all to be constructed on the former industrial site at the Marzahn S-Bahn station. At least 50% of the apartments will be rented as subsidized housing. The project focuses on sustainability and is being developed according to the KfW-40 standard, based on an urban design by David Chipperfield Architects.

Greenberg Traurig advised HOWOGE on all real estate and tax law aspects of the transaction.

Background:
Most recently, the Greenberg Traurig team advised HOWOGE together with berlinovo on the purchase of around 4,500 apartments and a 40-hectare potential site from Vonovia for a total of 700 million euros in spring 2024. HOWOGE is a long-standing client, which Greenberg Traurig supports in transactions and project developments as well as on issues related to broadband provision.
