Greenberg Traurig Expands Labor & Employment Team in Germany

BERLIN – Oct. 1, 2024 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP is expanding its German Labor & Employment Practice with the addition of lawyers from boutique law firm Hyazinth. Partner Thilo Ullrich will join the firm’s Berlin office Oct. 1 together with Counsel Katharina Lorenz, and Associate Nina Schäfer.

The new team will join Greenberg Traurig’s multioffice Labor & Employment Practice in Europe and the Middle East and expand the Berlin office’s “GT Labor Lab” – a fully integrated Labor & Employment Practice, currently led by Local Partner Dorothee v. Einem. The GT Labor Lab team regularly counsels human resources (HR) departments on employment law and strategy; advises clients with respect to operational changes, restructurings, internal investigations, and employee benefits programs; and also handles individual and collective employment and labor litigation matters. The team’s national and international clients are primarily from the IT, media and technology, infrastructure, mobility, energy, health care, education, and retail sectors. As of Oct. 1 v. Einem and Ullrich will jointly co-chair the GT Labor Lab and will continue to further develop and expand the firm’s practice.

Ullrich’s experience in negotiations with trade unions and works councils during challenging restructuring processes will be a valuable addition to the GT Labor Lab. Ullrich advised the commercial vehicle manufacturer IVECO with respect to its restructuring measures in Germany, and most recently advised on the labor and employment implications of a site closure and transfer of employees from one subsidiary to another in a complex site safeguarding agreement. Ullrich also regularly advises board members and managing directors regarding their contractual obligations and liability.

Peter Schorling, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Berlin office, noted: “With the addition of Thilo Ullrich’s team, we will have the capability to offer even more comprehensive labor and employment services to our clients. The GT Labor Lab will have the proficiency to provide counsel regarding the full HR spectrum, and to advise clients as to the employment and labor aspects related to complex restructurings and transactions. The four new team members will significantly strengthen our capacity to offer our clients high-quality legal advice on a global scale.

I am delighted to be joining Greenberg Traurig with my team,” Ullrich said. “We are especially attracted to the firm’s international focus and commitment to innovation. Together with Dorothee and my other new colleagues, we will be advising clients on all aspects of employment law on a national and cross-border basis, ensuring our legal services are more comprehensive and exceptional than ever before.”
