MIAMI – May 22, 2017 – Greenberg Traurig, LLP will host an event focused on Brazil, “High Growth Despite Recession: Investing in Small Companies in Brazil,” May 23 in the firm’s Miami office.
Nanette Aguirre, a shareholder in the New York office who is also a member of Greenberg Traurig’s Investment Regulation Group, and Joseph Suh, a shareholder in the firm’s New York office and member of the Investment Regulation Group, the Structured Finance & Derivatives Group, and the Latin American and Iberian Practice, will participate in the event as speakers.
The event will feature a panel discussion regarding the current regulatory environment in Brazil, and the alternative investment community there. Additional speakers include Francine Balbina, executive director of DMS Governance; Franciele Sgarioni, senior sales and marketing executive at Trident Trust; Oscar Decotelli, CEO of DXA Investments; Thalius Hecksher, global director of Trident Trust; and Gerald Lee, CEO of Modern Logistics.
Aguirre focuses her practice on derivatives and structured products. Her experience includes negotiating all forms of international derivatives (ISDA), trading, and prime brokerage agreements with global institutions. Additionally, she regularly advises on regulatory issues affecting the derivatives market, including Dodd Frank and related cross-border regulation. Aguirre works throughout Latin America, in countries like Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, advising banks, endowments, clearing organizations, and other financial institutions.
Aguirre is a member of the board of the Florida Alternative Investment Association. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, she spent 11 years in the Structured Products and Derivatives department of a major New York law firm serving the financial services sector and working closely with some of the industry’s largest hedge funds, mutual funds, and pension plans.
Suh focuses his practice on corporate and securities matters related to collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), investment funds, and financial products. He has wide-ranging experience representing investment managers and investors in connection with the formation of and investments in CLOs, hedge funds, and private equity funds, including private funds investing in CLO risk retention assets, asset-backed securities, distressed assets, marketplace loans, and Brazilian assets. Additionally, Suh advises on marketplace lending investments, Brazilian investments, and financial products (including hedge fund-linked notes, portable alpha trades, fund-linked derivatives, equity-linked notes, and other structured notes).
Suh, who lived in Brazil for nine years and speaks Portuguese, also advises Brazilian investment managers in connection with the structuring of private investment funds for U.S. investors, U.S. laws related to investment managers, and other related U.S. legal matters.
