FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – June 14, 2024 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. represented Socius Family Office in its sale to Corient Private Wealth, the U.S. wealth management arm of Canadian asset manager CI Financial.
The deal closed May 31. The Miami-based Corient was previously known as CI Private Wealth.
Socius is a registered investment advisory firm with $915 million in assets under management as of the end of 2023, according to its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Based in Fort Lauderdale, Socius has been led by President Mark Baniewicz, a former offensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars who co-founded the company in 2004. Socius was previously owned by Alterna Financial, a private asset manager based in Delray Beach, and works exclusively with retail clients. Former Miami Dolphins fullback Rob Konrad served as Socius’s chair and is currently Alterna’s chief executive.
The Greenberg Traurig team representing Socius was led by the firm’s Global Corporate Practice Co-Chair Bruce I. March and Fort Lauderdale Corporate Shareholder Travis M. Walker.
