Berkeley Center for Law & Technology's Biotechnology & Inventorship Series – What You Need To Know

This three-part virtual series, "Biotechnology & Inventorship Series – What You Need To Know," hosted by the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology ("BCLT") will discuss the law of biotechnology patent inventorship in patent prosecution, trade secret and patent litigation, and commercial transactions. The aim of this virtual speaker series is to educate biotechnology stake holders (scientists, entrepreneurs, funders, and their attorneys) on best practices for determining inventorship and addressing disputes, so that they may conduct their business affairs with greater certainty.

On Tuesday, September 19, Greenberg Traurig Shareholders Brent Sokol and Micheal Hebert, Ph.D., along with BCLT Life Sciences Director Allison Schmitt, will present the session "Inventorship Determinations: Disputes and Best Practices." This session will discuss the legal standard for inventorship, provide case examples, and share best practices for determining inventorship and handling disputes during prosecution.

Greenberg Traurig Shareholders Brent Sokol and Greg Bombard, and BCLT Life Sciences Director Allison Schmitt, will present part two of the series, "Trade Secret and Inventorship: Disputes and Best Practices," on Tuesday, September 26. The session will provide best practices for trade secret protection, and explore inventorship issues as they arise in the context of trade secret disputes.

The series will conclude on Tuesday, October 3 with Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Brent Sokol and Prashant Girinath, Ph.D., and BCLT Life Sciences Director Allison Schmitt, presenting "Transactions and Inventorship: Best Practices for Diligence and Covenants." The session will examine the law of inventorship, recommend best practices for transaction readiness and diligence, and provide case examples in which an inventorship dispute impacted a commercial transaction.
