Local Land Use Teams
In the case of New York City, GT’s Land Use team handles matters related to the interpretation of the Zoning Resolution at the New York City Department of Buildings; represents clients seeking to change the city’s zoning map or the text of the Zoning Resolution; assists clients in obtaining special permits or other approvals from the City Planning Commission or variances from the Board of Standards and Appeals; negotiates and closes development rights sale and purchase transactions; and represents clients seeking approvals from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. We regularly collaborate with our local Government Law & Policy teams, which includes attorneys, lobbyists, and former top aides and policy officials from various levels of government, to help achieve our clients’ goals.
In Florida, our team has the capacity to provide a broad range of legal and government affairs services related to practically all aspects of the land development process from acquisition and financing to entitlement, permitting, and construction. We have experience handling matters related to comprehensive plan amendments, zoning map changes, platting and subdivision approvals, site plan approvals, zoning code text changes, special permits and other approvals, whether through an administrative official or quasi-judicial body, negotiating and obtaining approval of complex development rights transactions such as transfer of air rights or Transferable Development Rights (TDRs), drafting and processing covenants, easements, or similar instruments, and working with different stakeholders to help accomplish clients’ goals. Our team of attorneys and other professionals have cultivated local relationships with key decisionmakers at many levels of government. Our network of Florida offices allows us to provide convenient access to federal, state, and local government agencies.
