HOUSTON – Feb. 25, 2025 – Roland Garcia, a Litigation Practice Shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Houston office, was appointed by Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Houston City Council to serve as a Port Commissioner of the Port of Houston Authority. Garcia will serve a two-year term as Port Commissioner.

According to its website, the Port of Houston owns and operates the eight public facilities along the 52-mile Houston Ship Channel, including the area’s largest breakbulk facility and two of the most efficient container terminals in the nation. The Port of Houston has served as a strategic leader for this vital waterway for over a century, ensuring the free flow of commerce throughout the region as well as bolstering national and international trade.
As an active part of the Houston community, Garcia serves as Co-Chair of the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Board. Garcia also serves on the boards of the Greater Houston Partnership and the Harris County Hospital District Foundation. He previously served as President of the Houston Bar Association and Hispanic Bar Association, as a Director of the State Bar of Texas, and as a board member of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority and the Memorial Hermann Health System. Garcia handles civil trial and appellate matters, governmental relations and compliance, and commercial and copyright cases. He has tried lawsuits in state and federal trial courts and has argued appeals in state and federal appellate courts. He is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers Magazine.
