Greenberg Traurig Advises cellcentric on Land Option Agreement for Germany’s First Large-Scale Fuel Cell Production Site for the Heavy-Duty Truck Industry

BERLIN – Jan. 14, 2025 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig has advised cellcentric, a joint venture between Daimler Truck and Volvo to develop and produce hydrogen fuel cell systems, on the conclusion of an option agreement with the city of Weilheim an der Teck. The contract concerns a 16-hectare site in the new Rosenloh industrial park in the district of Esslingen, which is earmarked for the construction of cellcentric's KLIMA|WERK. The aim is to create a large-scale production facility for the manufacture of fuel cell systems to bring a new generation of cellcentric fuel cell systems to market.

The purchase option can be exercised until the end of 2029 and thus ensures cellcentric the greatest possible flexibility, which had become necessary, among other things, due to the transformation in the automotive industry, the hydrogen infrastructure that is currently being developed and the availability of green hydrogen. Site development for the Rosenloh industrial park is scheduled to begin in fall 2025.

Greenberg Traurig has provided cellcentric with comprehensive advice on securing the location and on the complex contract negotiations since 2021.
