The firm’s Latin America Practice attorneys were also finalists for two additional deal awards

MIAMI – May 15, 2024 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP received the Latin Lawyer 2023 “Deal of Year” award in the Regulatory category for its representation of Hapag-Lloyd. The firm was also shortlisted in the M&A Public Companies and Private Equity categories.

Greenberg Traurig attorneys advised Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s leading liner shipping companies, on all antitrust procedures in connection with the company’s $1 billion acquisition of SAAM, the leading provider of port towage services in the Americas and ranked third globally. Hapag-Lloyd’s transaction was approved unconditionally by the relevant antitrust authorities of all countries involved.

Latin Lawyer announced the winners of the 18th annual Deal of the Year Awards May 9 during an awards ceremony at Hotel Unique in São Paulo, which recognizes landmark Latin American deals and cases across 11 categories.

Greenberg Traurig was also shortlisted in the following categories:

  • M&A Public Companies: Served as counsel to Guatemala’s Grupo Hame, one of Latin America’s largest palm oil producers and one of the biggest independent banana producers in the world, in its acquisition of Peruvian agribusiness Agrokasa, one of Peru’s largest produce exporters. The Greenberg Traurig team was led by the Co-Chair of the firm’s Latin America Practice Antonio Peña.
  • Private Equity: Advised MXT Holdings, a Mexico-based telecommunications infrastructure company, in its sale to ARDIAN, a leading global private equity firm. This transaction was ARDIAN’s first investment in Mexico. The Greenberg Traurig team was led by Mexico City Corporate Shareholder José Antonio Butrón Quintero.
