Greenberg Traurig Mexico Launches International Trade Practice with New Shareholder Guillermo Sánchez Chao

MEXICO CITY – Jan. 08, 2024 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues to expand its Mexico City Office with the addition of Guillermo Sánchez Chao as shareholder in its newly launched International Trade Practice.

With more than 35 years of experience, Sánchez Chao, a leading attorney on international trade & customs, joins from Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa.

Sánchez Chao focuses his practice on international trade, customs, supply chain and administrative litigation. He counsels domestic and multinational businesses on the development of projects and optimization of strategies that facilitate and make foreign trade transactions more efficient to promote production, importation, and exportation of goods as well as proper compliance with regulations established in local laws and international treaties.

“As a leading lawyer in international trade and customs, Guillermo’s practice and experience complement our current service offering, which will allow us to further strengthen our position in the legal sector, both nationally and internationally,” said José Raz Guzmán and Juan Manuel González Bernal, co-managing shareholders of the firm’s Mexico City office.

“As international trade continues to be a critical area for many clients and a focus of attention in the global market, we are excited about the addition of a new leading attorney in the practice. The addition of Guillermo is a key step in continuing to grow Mexico’s offering as well as the firm’s capabilities around the world,” said Kara M. Bombach, chair of the firm’s Washington, D.C. International Trade Group.

“We welcome Guillermo as a strategic addition to the Greenberg Traurig team. His knowledge and experience in international trade and supply chain will be of value to many firm clients around the world in our globally connected and growing marketplace, and even more so now with the growing importance of nearshoring," said Laura Siegel Rabinowitz, shareholder of the International Trade Practice in New York.

“I am excited to contribute to the Mexico office’s growth with my experience in international trade, customs, and supply chains, assisting companies to improve their competitiveness, access to markets, and to meet the demand for services required in the face of growing nearshoring trend in Mexico,” Sánchez Chao said. “Greenberg Traurig is an international powerhouse, and the team is very talented. I am confident that clients will benefit from its global platform, and we will further expand our position in the Mexican market going forward.”

In recent years, Greenberg Traurig's Mexico office has focused on expanding key practice areas such as Labor, Litigation, and Tax to create a multidisciplinary service offering for clients. In December 2022, the firm launched its Tax Practice with the addition of shareholders Erika Baez and Eduardo Medina alongside a team of four attorneys and one law clerk.

Sánchez Chao graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de México, has a postgraduate degree in International Law from the University of Texas in Dallas, and a diploma in Corporate Law from the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico.
