NEW YORK – June 30, 2015 — David W. Oppenheim, Franchise & Distribution Practice shareholder at international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been elected chair of the Business Law Section of the New York State Bar, as of June 1, 2015. Oppenheim will chair the Business Law Section, which has over 3,600 members, for one year.
Oppenheim, recognized by Chambers USA as a leading, national franchise attorney, concentrates his practice on domestic and international franchising, licensing, and distribution matters. He is also experienced in mergers and acquisitions and sophisticated financing transactions, including the securitizations of a franchisor’s royalty stream. He represents private equity firms and public and private companies in the acquisition of franchise, licensing, and distribution systems. Oppenheim is a member of the ABA Forum on Franchising’s Governing Committee, has been featured in Best Lawyers in America annually since 2009, and has been has been featured in The International Who’s Who of Franchise Lawyers annually since 2010.
Oppenheim will oversee the Business Law Section’s 12 committees, including its Banking, Bankruptcy, Corporations, Franchise, and Securities Law Committees. The Business Law Section regularly publishes material dealing with each committee’s field of expertise, sponsors conferences and seminars, and monitors legislation and policies that impact businesses in the state of New York.
