On Aug. 1, 2023, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published an updated edition of Form I-9 which includes a new permanent alternative procedure for qualifying employers to conduct I-9 verification virtually instead of with the traditional in-person verification process. After the temporary COVID-19 related I-9 flexibilities ended on July 31, 2023, employers have until Aug. 30, 2023, for the qualifying employers to complete physical inspection of I-9 documents for all employees whose I-9s were previously completed using virtual or remote document review.
In this webinar, the speakers will walk employers through the new Department of Homeland Security Final Rule, updated Form I-9, required eligibility criteria to use the new virtual alternative inspection procedure and related E-Verify issues, practice pointers for an in-office or remote workforce, and will discuss how recent I-9 updates impact the physical inspection requirement of employee I-9 documents previously inspected with COVID-19 flexibilities.
