Matthew Handler is a Shareholder in the Real Estate Operations Group. Matthew is a seasoned litigator whose practice focuses on complex disputes related to the use and ownership of real estate. Matthew represents clients through all stages of litigation, including pre-suit analysis and risk management, prosecuting and defending trial court and arbitration proceedings, and preparing briefs and presenting oral arguments to state and federal courts of appeals. In addition, Matthew advises real estate owners, developers, and users on a wide range of legal issues involving commercial leasing, property ownership, restrictive covenants, real estate development and financing, construction, land use, and related matters. Matthew also has deep experience handling fraud-based disputes and litigating claims involving fraudulent transfer and corporate veil-piercing liability.

  • Defended a global bank in an interpleader action brought by the IRS to resolve a claim priority dispute over the tax-debtor’s music royalty stream; the tax-debtor assigned music royalties to the bank as part of a securitization transaction; the IRS sought to set aside that securitization transaction based upon alter ego, nominee, and fraudulent transfer theories of third-party liability.°
