HOUSTON – March 27, 2024 – Both the Houston office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP and office Shareholder Roland Garcia were selected by the Houston Business Journal (HBJ) as 2024 Diversity in Business Award honorees.
According to HBJ, its Diversity in Business Awards program honors organizations and individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to promoting practices that advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace, as well as in business leadership.
“For the past 19 years, the Houston office has preserved and emphasized Greenberg Traurig’s commitment to furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Today, we are immensely proud of the work we have accomplished and of our diverse workforce,” the firm’s Houston office Managing Shareholder Shari L. Heyen said. “Congratulations to the 2024 honorees, especially my Houston office colleagues and Roland Garcia!”
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Greenberg Traurig Houston was recognized in the Outstanding Diverse Organizations category. This category identifies organizations that have contributed to harnessing diversity within their workforces. It also honors those that have actively taken the lead to promote and champion the business case for diversity within the community or their industries.
Garcia is recognized in the Outstanding Diversity Champion category, which identifies individuals who have shown outstanding initiative to promote diversity and inclusion either within the community or their organizations.
“For me, the most rewarding aspect of incorporating diversity would be the individuals with which you are able to connect. When there is a diverse group, you are open to diversity of thought, lived experiences, and more,” Garcia said. “I am fortunate to be at a firm that has always emphasized and supported DEI initiatives. Furthermore, it’s an honor that HBJ has elected to recognize me alongside influential leaders in the community for my work in the space.”
Garcia was the first minority president of the Houston Bar Association. He also served as president of the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, Dispute Resolution Center, and Houston Hispanic Bar Association, and is a past member of two Texas Supreme Court Task Forces, Gender Fairness and Judicial Selection, and the Rules Advisory Committee. He further serves on three committees for the Greater Houston Partnership, and is co-chairman of the Houston Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Board. Garcia also served on the regional selection panel for the White House Fellows Program, which offers experience working for the federal government to exceptional Americans from diverse backgrounds and professions. Garcia has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers Magazine.
HBJ will host an award ceremony March 28 and will issue a special publication in an upcoming weekly edition.
