LOS ANGELES and SAN FRANCISCO (July 16, 2014) — Two attorneys from the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, Charles Birenbaum in San Francisco and Mark Kemple in Los Angeles, have been named to The Daily Journal’s list of California’s Leading Labor & Employment Lawyers for 2014.
“We congratulate Chuck and Mark on this tremendous recognition by the Daily Journal,” said Matt Gorson, Co-Chairman of Greenberg Traurig. “They both share a passion for the law and are consistently recognized by clients, peers and legal publications as leaders in labor and employment law.”
Birenbaum is an experienced labor and employment attorney and serves the firm as Chair, Northern California. He focuses his practice on traditional labor and employment law matters, and has wide-ranging experience litigating in state and federal courts as well as appearing before various administrative agencies. He has testified on proposed legislation impacting entire industries before state legislative committees, and has interfaced and negotiated with labor organizations, politicians, regulators, and industry leaders to resolve complex issues for clients in the health care, energy and construction industries, among others.
Kemple is a litigator with broad trial experience in many areas of the law, including employment class and individual litigation, consumer class litigation, false advertising, and unfair competition. In addition to serving as National Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Labor & Employment Class and Collective Action Practice, Kemple leads the firm’s Southern California Labor and Employment Practice where he focuses on the defense of wage & hour class actions and individual employment claims. In 2013, he led the trial team that obtained a ruling from the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit that reversed decades of lower court decisions and held that a defendant may always remove based on facts uncovered through its own investigation.
Greenberg Traurig’s Labor & Employment Practice provides an array of workplace strategies and legal counsel, including practical and efficient consulting, technical assistance, and litigation services for domestic and international clients. The team offers a wide range of services, from initial counseling to National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and National Mediation Board proceedings. They help employers maintain positive relations with their employees while avoiding the expense and disruption of litigation.
