Senate Bill 478, often referred to as the “Junk Fee Law” is effective in California on July 1, 2024. The CA Department of Justice’s interpretation of the law sent out in its May 8 FAQ would require many restaurant operators to change long-established pricing practices or face significant risk. On June 6, 2024, Senate Bill 1524 was introduced, which would alter the application of SB 478 to restaurants. Please join GT’s Alice L. Kessler, Adil M. Khan, Riley Lagesen, and Magaly Zagal as they discuss the evolving SB 478 and SB 1524 landscape.
The session will cover:
• The Latest in Developments Around SB 1524 and What it Means for Restaurants
• Risk Mitigation Considerations for Restaurants Pending Further SB 478 and SB 1524 Clarity
• The Pricing-Related Risks for Restaurants Beyond SB 478
