Lori Chang is an intellectual property, internet and privacy litigator, and represents clients in matters involving copyright, DMCA, trademark, the Communications Decency Act, privacy, and other internet law-related issues. She also represents companies in the defense of privacy and cybersecurity class actions, including suits brought under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and other privacy laws. In addition, she counsels clients on privacy and data security matters.

Sept. 23, 2015) (defeating class certification), Marks v. Crunch San Diego, LLC (S.D. Cal.), appeal pending before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (Case No. 14-56834), and Dominguez v. Yahoo! Inc. (E.D. Pa.), appeal pending before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals (Case No. 17-1243).
  • Represented amicus curiae in Hassell v. Bird, in the California Supreme Court, involving section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
  • Represented eNom Inc. as amicus curiae in Petroliam Nasional Berhad v. GoDaddy.com, Inc., in the Northern District of California, involving issues arising under the statutory preemption set forth in the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.
  • Represented eBay Inc. in Inman v. Technicolor USA, Inc., 2011 WL 5829024 (W.D. Pa. 2011) in obtaining judgment in a toxic tort and product liability case brought in the Western District of Pennsylvania based on federal preemption under the Communications Decency Act (CDA).
  • Second-chaired a jury trial representing Gramercy Warehouse Funding I LLC in Cupertino Square, LLC v. Gramercy Warehouse Funding I LLC, California Superior Court for the County of Santa Clara, Case No. 108 CV 109461, and obtained a $25 million jury verdict following a three-week trial in a real estate finance recovery litigation involving a $195 million construction loan secured by a retail mall.
  • Defended a social network in a putative privacy class action suit in 2011 in enforcing a venue selection clause in an Internet terms of use agreement and then obtaining a voluntary dismissal after the case was transferred from California to New York.
  • Represented Yahoo! Inc. in defense of a civil tort suit and obtained judgment based on federal preemption under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
  • Represented eNom Inc. in Zuccarini v. Nameiet Inc., et al., in defending a case for breach of contract and other claims arising out of the transfer of 75 domain names pursuant to a court order.
  • Represented a Swiss Internet company in defense of a copyright infringement suit filed in the Southern District of California which settled on confidential terms after prevailing against plaintiff’s motion for preliminary injunction.
  • Counseled an Internet gaming organization and other Internet-based companies in a high-profile litigation before the Kentucky state courts involving an attempted seizure of 141 domain names registered in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Represented an Internet social networking company in litigation that resulted in a more than $229 million judgment and permanent injunction on claims under the CAN-SPAM act and related state law claims.
  • Represented a REIT in major ground lease litigation and arbitration disputes involving seven major acute care hospital facilities.
  • Represented clients in the entertainment industry in matters involving copyright and trademark infringement claims.
