Greta Barkle is a Senior Associate in the London White Collar Defense & Investigations Team focusing on business crime and regulatory investigations. Greta acts for clients being investigated and prosecuted by domestic and international law enforcement agencies in relation to fraud, bribery and corruption, money laundering and tax avoidance and evasion matters. She has significant experience representing individuals and corporates in complex cross-border matters, often at the intersection of criminal and civil law. 

Greta has particular experience in mutual legal assistance and European Court of Human Rights matters as well as representing individuals making submissions to Interpol for the deletion of red notices and diffusions.

Greta began her career in New Zealand where she worked on a range of complex civil disputes, including claims against the New Zealand Police and Government Communications Security Bureau in relation to dawn raids and unlawful surveillance of communications. Greta has advised on matters heard in each of New Zealand’s senior courts and appeared as junior counsel in the Supreme Court of New Zealand.

  • Advised major international corporate under investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in relation to the submission of allegedly falsified documentation.°
  • Represented corporate in litigation against the National Crime Agency (NCA) following the NCA’s issuance and execution of a search warrant giving effect to a request for mutual legal assistance from the United States Department of Justice.°
  • Advised individual under investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for insider trading.°
  • Advised employee of FTSE 250 company under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in relation to allegations of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and false accounting.°
  • Represented Greece-based individual in High Court litigation with the FCA in relation to the FCA’s claim for restitution and its use of material obtained via mutual legal assistance in a civil matter.°
  • Represented corporate during Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) raid in relation to suspected cartel offences.°
  • Advised corporate in relation to compliance with Money Laundering Regulations including drafting requisite policies and procedures and representing corporate at compliance check.°
  • Advised multinational technology conglomerate in relation to its obligations under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and in relation to the Online Harms White Paper.°
  • Advised former director of bank under investigation by the Prudential Regulation Authority in relation to, amongst other things, the bank’s risk management, systems and controls and governance.°
  • Advised former employee of global investment bank in relation to CMA investigation into suspected anti-competitive arrangements in the financial services sector.°
  • Advised ultra-high-net-worth individual in relation to multi-million-pound claim expected to be filed in the High Court stemming from allegations of fraud in the Russian Federation.°
  • Advised former employee of British multinational under investigation by the SFO in relation to allegations of bribery and corruption in Africa.°
  • Represented France-based employee of multinational conglomerate under investigation by HMRC in relation to allegations of fraud by false accounting and cheating the public revenue in the context of a diverted profits tax investigation.°
