Major General John D. Altenburg Jr. (USA, Retired) focuses his practice on corporate governance and sensitive, internal investigations in the defense, homeland security sector, and the multilateral development bank sector. His practice covers domestic and international corporate representation, including multilateral development bank and federal agency debarment proceedings. He represented corporations in UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Japan. His experience as a compliance monitor enhances his representation of corporations for investigation and compliance matters. General Altenburg also represents individuals and corporations in matters requiring access to Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information, such as matters before the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) and the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals (DOHA). He represents senior government officials and corporate executives in executive branch and congressional investigations and hearings.

During his 28 years as a lawyer in the Army, he represented the Army before Congress, state, and local governments, and in court in the United States and Germany. He also advised, counseled, and negotiated at all levels within the Army, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Justice on matters of importance to the Defense Community, Members of Congress, and the media. As Deputy Judge Advocate General for the Department of the Army from 1997 to 2001, he advised senior military and civilian leaders on critical legal and policy issues and directed the day-to-day operations of approximately 1,800 civilian and uniformed attorneys in 70 offices and 3,000 National Guard and Army Reserve attorneys worldwide. Gen. Altenburg returned to the firm in November 2006 from a public service leave of absence as the Appointing Authority for Military Commissions, Office of the Secretary of Defense.

    • Designed, implemented comprehensive financial disclosure and compliance review and audit system to ensure banking industry best practices and World Bank Group leadership of International anti-corruption initiatives.
