NEW YORK – June 20, 2024 – Jena M. Valdetero, co-chair of the U.S. Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was named the “2024 Privacy & Data Protection Lawyer of the Year” by the Delinian Legal Media Group as part of its “Women in Business Law Awards Americas 2024.” Greenberg Traurig also received a regional firm award, “Best Law Firm in the North America – US Midwest,” based on its ratio of female-to-male lawyers, according to Delinian.
Winners are chosen based on “their ability to support the development of women in the legal profession and provide a work/life program that empowers women to pursue legal careers,” Delinian reports. Criteria for the firm awards include the ratio of female-to-male lawyers at all levels of seniority, the retention of women associates to partner level, and relevant diversity initiatives. Individual winners are selected based on their professional accomplishments as well as advocacy and influence over the last 12 months.
Valdetero was the recipient of the “2024 Privacy & Data Protection Lawyer of the Year” award based primarily on the role she played on influential cases. The award also took into consideration advocacy, influence, and thought leadership, according to Delinian.
Valdetero has led more than 1,000 data breach investigations. A litigator by background, she defends companies against privacy and data breach litigation, with an emphasis on class action lawsuits. She has designed and conducted dozens of data breach tabletop exercises to empower clients to respond effectively to a data security incident. She also counsels companies on data privacy and security compliance programs and advises on privacy and cyber risks associated with mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, and securities. Valdetero also advises a diverse array of clients on compliance with existing and emerging privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, the Gramm Leach Bliley Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. She is a certified privacy professional through the International Association of Privacy Professionals, for which she is a former KnowledgeNet co-chair.
