The ABA’s 5th annual AI and Robotics National Institute will bring together law firms, government, and in-house attorneys as well as business leaders to cover the latest topics in AI and robotics law and policy while providing practical guidance and tools for practicing law and managing risk in the era of generative AI. On Tuesday, October 10, Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Ian C. Ballon, Global Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice, will present the session, "The Future Has Arrived: Rethinking Human Creativity, Entertainment, and the Law in the Face of Generative AI." The session will analyze the technology behind advances in AI-enhanced audio, visual, and text tools, such as video, 3D models, speech, music, text-to image, and multimodal generation. The panel will discuss how the industry is compensating creative workers in the face of emerging powerful new AI tools and evaluating what constitutes fair payment to living and deceased actors for the use of their likenesses and voices. The panel also will explore the extent to which legal ownership and protection should remain with a natural person from copyright, intellectual property, and entertainment law perspectives while highlighting the quick and proactive stances on these AI issues from the US Copyright Office and Patent and Trademark Office. Last, the panel will provide practical tips for legal practitioners to address these continually changing issues as technology further evolves.
