MIAMI – May 17, 2024 – Greenberg Traurig, P.A. Senior Vice President and Miami Co-Managing Shareholder Jaret L. Davis received the 2024 Equal Justice Leadership Award at the Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc.’s 15th Annual Heart of Giving Celebration on May 16. The event recognizes leaders in the community for their instrumental efforts in fostering a more just and equitable Miami.
Legal Services of Greater Miami provides free civil legal services for the low-income communities of Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. The annual Heart of Giving event began as an integral part of the non-profit’s “Together We Must” Campaign for Justice to raise awareness of the critical need for free civil legal services for vulnerable members of the community.
“As an effective social justice advocate for many years, Jaret’s civic leadership has helped elevate important causes in our community. His commitment to helping those in need for many years is inspiring, and we are grateful for his dedication to service,” said Monica Vigues-Pitan, CEO of Legal Services of Greater Miami.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava praised Davis during a speech at the event for being a “compassionate advocate and civic leader” who “never turns down an opportunity to do good.”
“He embodies the best of legal advocacy. He has left an indelible mark on the legal landscape,” said Levine-Cava, who also credited Davis for putting Miami on the map for its growing technology industry. “He is probably responsible for more of the tech surge in this county than anyone.”
The Heart of Giving Celebration gathered over 500 members of the legal and business community at the Rubell Museum in Miami. The event honored other social justice advocates including David Lawrence Jr., founder and board chair of The Children’s Movement of Florida and former publisher of the Miami Herald.
“Providing visibility and dignity on a case-by-case basis is beyond noble, but the services that the Legal Services of Greater Miami provides go so much further,” Davis said. “Each family you assist and each person you shine a light on is one more person that continues to believe the legal system works and continues to subscribe to it. So long as we continue to maintain that buy in, there is no social or economic challenge we can’t overcome together.”
A Miami native, Davis is a founding member of the Partnership for Miami, a newly-formed, nonprofit organization committed to Miami’s long-term growth and success. He also serves as Vice Chairman of Nicklaus Children’s Health System and is a member of the board of directors for both the Miami Foundation and City National Bank of Florida. He is co-founder and general counsel of the eMerge Americas global technology conference and previously served as chair of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council. He is a former Vice Chair of the Miami Children’s Initiative, which focuses on education reform in the Liberty City area; a former founding Board Member of the SEED School of Miami, Florida’s only public college-preparatory boarding school oriented towards economically disadvantaged students; and a former Board member of City Year Miami.
Davis oversees approximately 400 attorneys and business staff based in Miami and focuses his practice on structuring and negotiating domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital raising transactions, and large financings. A member of the firm’s global Executive Committee, he has played a key role in many of South Florida’s largest transactions and has guided the firm’s efforts to be a dominant player in the technology industry.
