Greenberg Traurig advised nLighten, a European edge data centerplatform. Teams from Greenberg Traurig’s Amsterdam and Berlin offices assisted nLighten and its founders Harro Beusker and Chad McCarthy from inception through to the first funding round to establish data centers. nLighten’s stated goal is to provide high-quality so called colocation services to cities and regions across Europe. Colocation is the practice of renting space for servers and other computing hardware at a third-party provider’s data center facility.
nLighten has said it expects to open ten strategic locations in Germany and in addition has a pipeline of potential acquisitions across Europe and the UK. According to nLighten, it has received a commitment of more than $500 million of equity to support its ambitions. This is an exciting development for the data center industry and could have significant implications for improving digital infrastructure across Europe.
nLighten is a digital infrastructure platform and a portfolio company of I Squared Capital, an independent global infrastructure investment manager. The company also notes it is also pursuing the deployment of innovative energy solutions, including grid stabilization and the recovery and export of heat to nearby buildings and utility networks. nLighten acquired its initial data centers in Germany from EXA Infrastructure, another portfolio company of I Squared Capital.
