Brian J. Vohrer advises governments on matters raising issues of public international law, including international humanitarian law, the law of the sea, the law of treaties, and diplomatic and sovereign immunity, as well as obligations that arise from multilateral and bilateral treaties and United Nations practice and procedure. He also counsels governments on the legal aspects of diplomatic correspondence.

  • Counsel to a State in arbitration proceedings brought pursuant to the Constitution of the Universal Postal Union.°
  • Represented the Government of Suriname in a maritime boundary dispute with the Government of Guyana before an international tribunal constituted under Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.°
  • Provide extensive advice on all aspects of international humanitarian law and the laws of armed conflict.°
  • Drafted successful pleading submitted by a State to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia opposing defendant’s request for an order to compel that State to produce documents.°
  • Advised a State with regard to a matter brought before the United Nations Human Rights Council complaint procedures.°
  • Represented a State in advisory opinion proceedings before the International Court of Justice.°
