Nina D. Boyajian is Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Los Angeles Litigation Practice. Her primary focus is on trademark, copyright (including DMCA), privacy (e.g., right of publicity and TCPA class action defense), and First Amendment counseling and litigation. Nina has been involved in all stages of litigation from pre-litigation diligence and enforcement through preliminary injunction proceedings, discovery, summary judgment, trial, and appeal. Nina has represented clients across a variety of industries, both in enforcing their intellectual property rights and defending against claims of infringement. As a corollary to her trademark litigation practice, Nina also provides strategic trademark portfolio management counseling.

In addition to her intellectual property and privacy litigation practice, Nina also has broad experience litigating general business disputes, particularly in the media and entertainment space. Her litigation and trial experience extends to both state and federal courts nationwide.

  • Representation of two digital music services in obtaining dismissal of pre-1972 sound recordings California copyright claims brought by a putative class in Ponderosa Twins Plus One v. iHeart Media, Inc., Case No. 3:16-cv-5648-VC, 2020 WL 3481737 (N.D. Cal. June 26, 2020).
  • Representation of electronic group, an automobile manufacturer, and other co-defendants in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed against them by rapper Rick Ross and his producers Andrew Harr and Jermaine Jackson. After bifurcating the case, it settled on confidential terms. Roberts v. Gordy, 181 F. Supp. 3d 997 (S.D. Fla. 2016).
  • Representation of Chico's FAS, Inc. in a copyright infringement case regarding clothing designs.
  • Representation of Sony Pictures Entertainment and its indirect subsidiary Crackle.com (formerly Grouper) in defense of a claim for copyright infringement based on Crackle's operation of a user-generated content site. The case was one of the first major cases filed challenging UGC sites to the statutory protections afforded service providers by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The case settled on confidential terms.
  • Representation of Punchbowl News, an insider political news publication, in trademark infringement case brought by greeting card and event planning company Punchbowl Inc., in obtaining summary judgment. Punchbowl, Inc. v. AJ Press LLC, 2:21-cv-03010-SVW-MAR (C.D. Cal.).
  • Representation of SHEIN in a variety of trademark matters.
  • Representation of Gannett Co, Inc. in copyright and public access matters.
  • Representation of Keds LLC in defending a trademark infringement claim brought by Hanesbrands Inc. over foreign uses of the CHAMPION brand. The case was dismissed in its entirety, for failure to state a claim. Hanesbrands Inc. v. Keds, LLC, No. 1:20-cv-11354-IT, 2021 WL 2043470 (D. Mass. May 21, 2021)
  • Representation of Citizen Watch Company of America in trademark and right of publicity litigation brought by a former astronaut.
  • Representation of Ares Management, a publicly traded, leading global alternative asset manager with approximately $447 billion of assets under management and approximately 3,000 employees. Manages and enforces worldwide trademark and domain name portfolio, and provides advice, counseling, and litigation regarding IP and privacy matters.
  • Representation of the Estate of Michael Jackson in various lawsuits against the Estate, including obtaining an injunction in a trademark case that was affirmed by the Ninth Circuit. Branca v. Heal the World Found., 568 F. App'x 521 (9th Cir. 2014).
  • Representation of user-generated content websites in copyright and trademark disputes.
  • Obtained a temporary restraining order and later permanent injunction against counterfeiters of brand-name jeans.
  • Representation of The Palm Beach Post in obtaining an order unsealing and releasing the Grand Jury records in the 2006 Jeffrey Epstein prosecution. CA Fla. Holdings, LLC v. Aronberg, 360 So. 3d 1149 (Fla. Dist. Ct. App. 2023). 
  • Defended Sony Pictures Entertainment in a federal jury trial involving a claimed $50 million lawsuit alleging interference with a promoter’s contracts with personalities from client's hit television show and involving trademark counterclaims. After the close of plaintiffs’ case, the federal judge dismissed the plaintiffs’ case with prejudice.   • Representation of Yahoo! in defeating class certification in Sherman v. Yahoo! Inc., No. 13cv0041–GPC–WVG, 2015 WL 5604400 (S.D. Cal. Sept. 23, 2015)
  • Representation of defendant in Telephone Consumer Protection Act putative class action brought over confirmatory text messages. Ibey v. Taco Bell Corp., 2012 WL 2401972 (S.D. Cal. 2012).
  • Representation of MySpace, Inc. in MySpace, Inc. v. Media Breakaway, LLC, which resulted in a more than $6 million judgment in favor of MySpace for claims under the CAN-SPAM act and related state law claims.
  • Representation of MySpace, Inc. in MySpace, Inc. v. Wallace, 498 F. Supp. 2d 1293 (C.D. Cal. 2007), enjoining a defendant under the CAN-SPAM Act.
  • Representation of MySpace, Inc. in MySpace, Inc. v. TheGlobe.com, Inc., 2007 WL 1686966 (C.D. Cal. 2007), granting summary judgment under the CAN-SPAM Act, California's anti-spamming statute and for breach of MySpace's Terms of Use, including its $50 per email liquidated damages clause. The case settled on confidential terms in 2007.
  • Appointed guardian ad litem to two siblings injured in an auto accident while in the care of their foster family.
  • Pro bono counsel to Mona Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports grassroots initiatives focused on education and raising the status of women and girls in the US and abroad.
  • Pro bono counsel in removal proceedings of a human and women’s rights activist from the Democratic Republic of Congo seeking asylum in the United States; client is now a lawful U.S. citizen
