MIAMI – April 21, 2025 – A team of litigators from global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. secured a trial victory in a $50 million trademark infringement and counterfeiting case on behalf of Shenzhen Kinwong, a China-based company that is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Nearly two years after a month-long bench trial which took place from April-May 2023, U.S. District Judge Roy K. Altman of the Southern District of Florida entered a ruling in Kinwong’s favor April 4 in Shenzhen Kinwong Electronics Co. v. Rishi Kukreja et al., Case: 18-cv-61550-ALTMAN/Hunt. In the 92-page order, Judge Altman found that Fort Lauderdale-based PCB distribution company Circuitronix LLC (CTX) and its principal Rishi Kukreja had committed fraud on the United States Patent and Trademark Office by stealing Kinwong’s mark and registering it as its own in the United States.
Altman called the case “exceptional” under the Lanham Act and found that CTX had illegally passed off and infringed on Kinwong’s trademarked products. As a result of the decision, Kinwong won back the ownership of its valuable trademark in the United States. In addition, Judge Altman awarded Kinwong millions in damages and found that Kinwong was entitled to recover its attorneys’ fees and costs.
“Judge Altman’s order sends a powerful message that the justice system works and that deceptive practices and narratives used to cover up fraud won’t hold up in court,” said Miami Litigation Shareholder James E. Gillenwater, who co-led the Greenberg Traurig team representing Kinwong. “Our team worked tirelessly to uncover and prove the truth, despite facing numerous challenges throughout the case, including having to crack the defendants’ counterfeiting code, overcome the defendants’ hiding of critical evidence, and tell our story through the defendants’ witnesses by impeaching them with their own documents. We are proud to have achieved justice for Kinwong.”
The case, which has lasted seven years, came on the heels of a breach of contract lawsuit initially brought by CTX in November 2017. CTX alleged Kinwong breached the exclusivity provision of a distribution agreement between the parties by selling millions of dollars of PCBs to some of CTX’s alleged exclusive customers.
The multioffice team representing Kinwong was led by Gillenwater and Miami Litigation Shareholder Mark A. Salky. The team also included Co-Managing Shareholder of the firm's Shanghai office and Co-Chair of the firm's China Practice George Qi, Miami Litigation Associate Emiley Pagrabs, and Washington, D.C., Intellectual Property & Technology Shareholder Steven J. Wadyka Jr.
