For the 4th Consecutive Year, GT Participates in Natural Products Expo West

ANAHEIM, CA – March 9, 2018 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP Food, Beverage, & Agribusiness Practice shareholders Justin J. Prochnow and Edward T. Schultz will speak at this year’s Natural Products Expo West convention, March 7-11, at the Anaheim Convention Center. This is the fourth year the firm presented at Expo West, which is the world’s largest natural, organic, and healthy products expo, attracting more than 77,000 industry professionals annually. Greenberg Traurig (GT) also returned as an exhibitor at booth No. 5500, Hall E.

On March 7, Prochnow spoke on the panel presentation titled, “The CBD Summit.” He discussed the opportunities and challenges that exist for the hemp-derived CBD market in the United States. The panelists delved into the regulatory, supply, scientific, labeling, retail, and standards issues surrounding the hemp-derived CBD market, helping to inform the next steps of a supplier, manufacturer, or retailer of CBD products.

On March 9, Prochnow will moderate the panel titled, “If We Only Knew Then; Avoiding Our Companies’ Legal Pitfalls.” The discussion will focus on lessons learned – for early stage companies on the journey from startup to successful enterprise. In addition to GT Shareholder Schultz, the panelists include Joe McCarthy of McCarthy Consulting Services; Daren Myers, Co-Founder of Rau Chocolate; and Robin Tsai, Managing Director at VMG Partners. They will discuss the unexpected pitfalls they encountered, mistakes they made and overcame, those they avoided, and what they would have done differently - if they knew then, what they know now. Attendees will learn about identifying potential obstacles, including those a newer entrepreneur may not know to look for, and how the right advisors can help a company steer around or take head-on the challenges that may lie ahead.

Prochnow, co-chair of Food, Beverage & Agribusiness Practice and a shareholder in the Denver Litigation Practice, focuses his practice on assisting companies with regulatory, business, and legal needs in the beverage, food, dietary supplement, cosmetic, medical device, and OTC industries. He works closely with companies to ensure regulatory compliance with statutes and regulations enforced by the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, and other regulatory agencies, including the review of product labels, labeling, advertising, websites, and other marketing materials. Prochnow and his team also defend industry companies from both governmental agencies and civil litigators in litigation ranging from breach of contract cases to the growing number of class actions alleging false and misleading advertising.

Schultz, a shareholder in the Los Angeles Corporate Practice, focuses his practice on corporate and securities law and corporate finance, including strategic counseling, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, debt and equity offerings, credit transactions, and secured lending. He represents and serves as outside general counsel for privately held and public companies as well as private equity funds, including several foreign-based funds and businesses. Schultz is experienced advising clients on a wide range of legal and business issues relative to acquiring and divesting of business units. His clients reflect a number of industries including food and beverage, technology, consumer products, alternative energy, entertainment and media, and hospitality.
