Andrew S. Wein is a regulatory, litigation, and corporate attorney who represents financial services clients. His national practice focuses primarily on mortgage companies and other consumer financial institutions, assisting them with both litigation and regulatory compliance. Andrew handles litigation and regulatory issues arising out of federal and state consumer protection statutes, including the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Truth in Lending Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act, and the Home Affordable Modification Program.
On the regulatory side, Andrew’s experience includes proceedings before state and federal agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the New York Department of Financial Services. In addition, Andrew has deep experience with all facets of the mortgage industry, including the licensing of mortgage companies and their affiliates, examinations by state and federal agencies, loan repurchase disputes, pooling and servicing agreements, financing agreements, and various other originations and servicing transactions.
Andrew has also represented and counseled clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 corporations in complex commercial litigation, with a focus on insurance disputes, privacy-related litigation, consumer class actions, and government investigations.

Experience
- Negotiated a Consent Judgment for $127.3 million settlement payment and $2 billion in consumer relief. The settlement for a major mortgage servicing company was one of the largest joint state/federal government settlements, resolving consumer protection claims by 49 state attorneys general, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and 45 state banking regulators relating to a mortgage servicing company and its predecessors.°
- Negotiated a Consent Order with a State Financial Regulator over allegations of unlicensed activity by a mortgage company. Resolved allegations that its overseas affiliates had engaged in unlicensed mortgage servicing activity in violation of state law.°
- Represented a Fortune 500 company in multiparty dispute with its insurers over coverage for claims relating to lead paint, covering 40 years of insurance coverage.°
- Represented a national franchisor of consumer financial services in its dispute with its insurers and franchisee over indemnification and defense of privacy and data breach claims.°
- Represented a consumer electronics company in connection with an investigation by the District of Columbia Attorney General’s office relating to the Washington, D.C. Consumer Protection Law.°
- Represented a national telecommunications company in an ADR proceeding against a subcontractor over indemnification obligations.°
- Represented a manufacturer at trial against its insurers over coverage for asbestos-related bodily injury claims.°
