Natalie Salem, Ph.D. focuses on assisting clients in developing patent portfolios and obtaining patent protection in the United States and abroad.
Natalie has broad experience in worldwide patent portfolio development, intellectual property due diligence, patentability and freedom to operate evaluations.
Natalie has worked closely with companies assisting with the protection and management of technology IP in the field of synthetic biology, biofuels, metabolic pathway engineering, renewable chemicals, industrial catalysts, nucleic acid synthesis, microarray, therapeutics, diagnostics, immunotherapy and medical devices. Representative clients include venture-backed biosynthetic chemistry company, venture-backed biosynthetic chemistry company, a publicly-traded biofuels company, and a publicly-traded therapeutic company.
Prior to joining the firm, Natalie was a patent agent at another international law firm, where she drafted and prosecuted patent applications and assisted in IP due diligence. Previously, Natalie was with a leading biotech company and oversaw its patent portfolio in the field of synthetic biology. She also worked as a technology specialist at a leading microarray company.
Before entering the legal profession, Natalie received post-doctoral training in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco in the laboratory of Professor Kelly. Her research focused on the molecular mechanism of synaptic vesicle recycling. Natalie earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Geneva (Switzerland). She conducted research in neurobiochemistry in the Department of Pharmacology at the Centre Medical Universitaire. Natalie’s research focused on the biochemistry of the enzyme choline acetyltransferase.
