Mark R. Galis is Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. He concentrates his practice on patent, trademark and copyright matters, with a focus on IP portfolio management, business method/eCommerce/Internet patents, litigation, and transactional intellectual property. His experience includes overseeing all aspects of the patent and trademark portfolios of large, middle market and start-up entities, including the preparation of patent and trademark opinions, litigation, acquisitions and sale of intellectual property and licensing agreements. In addition, Mark has handled a number of patent disputes involving business method patents, particularly those in the eCommerce area.

Capabilities

Experience

  • Represented major electronics company in the defense of a patent infringement suit brought by a competitor. The client was granted summary judgment based on a novel implied license defense which judgment was upheld by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
  • Represented major electronics company in defending a patent infringement suit brought by a competitor where the client, after a two week bench trial, was found not to infringe the asserted patent.
  • Representation of one of the largest golf club manufacturers in the world in a default proceeding which a client brought against a Taiwanese competitor. The court granted the client a large monetary award based on a unique damages theory.
  • Represented major electronics company in connection with a copyright infringement suit brought against a competitor based on a database of infrared codes wherein the court denied the competitor's Motion for Summary Judgment of Non-Copyrightability.
  • Represented software developer and others in connection with various eCommerce-related patent disputes.
