Claire Broadbelt and Kathryn Garbett are Finalists for British Legal Awards’ Mentor of the Year

LONDON –18 October 2022 – Claire Broadbelt and Kathryn Garbett, co-chairs of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s UK Civil Fraud & Business Disputes Practice in London, are finalists for Mentor of the Year Award at this year’s Legal Week/Law.com International British Legal Awards. The award celebrates mentors in the industry who help individuals succeed in law over the year or have a record of mentoring people throughout their career.

Claire and Kathryn are committed champions of their team at Greenberg Traurig. Claire started her career as Kathryn’s trainee, and under her leadership and guidance has risen to join her as not only one of the most sought-after civil fraud solicitors in the UK, but also as a co-leader of the tight-knit civil fraud and business disputes team who together work on some of the largest and most high-profile civil fraud matters before the English High Court.

In 2021, Claire and Kathryn began at Greenberg Traurig as part of a team of 20 who, together with Claire and Kathryn, have a combined 150 years of legal experience. Claire and Kathryn, over more than 15 years, have helped grow the team, mostly organically through the continued development of those who began at the junior level within the team. Claire and Kathryn have been personally involved in the mentoring of those team members, as well as new additions.

Claire represents clients on multijurisdictional civil fraud matters, both pursuing and defending complex claims. Her cases often involve serious allegations of fraud or misconduct, including the diversion of business opportunities, claims of deceit, breach of confidence, breaches of fiduciary duty, conspiracy, bribery, and secret profits. She regularly handles matters that include worldwide asset-tracing and recovery, freezing and search orders, and other associated injunctions. She advises clients across a wide range of sectors including banking and finance, commodities trading, information technology, retail, and property.

Kathryn focuses her commercial litigation practice on matters related to civil fraud. She has been involved in some of the most high-profile commercial fraud cases before the Supreme Court in recent times. Kathryn has a practical and sensible approach and tailors her advice and support to help clients navigate extremely complex legal and factual issues.
