Greenberg Traurig’s Barbara A. Jones Named Law360 2020 MVP for Fintech

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 6, 2020 – Barbara A. Jones, co-chair of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Blockchain Group, has been selected as a Law360 2020 Fintech MVP.

Law360 reports that its MVP of the Year awards honor attorneys for their successes in high-stakes litigation, significant deals, or complex global matters. In all, Law360 selected 189 MVPs, across 38 categories, from more than 900 submissions.

Jones is well-known for her experienced counsel in the blockchain and fintech industry. She collaborates with regulators and government agencies on issues involving this rapidly evolving and complex financial technology and represents many of the businesses creating ground-breaking blockchain technology. Clients depend on Jones’s ability to work with regulators and governments worldwide to help them create a blockchain token structure and platforms to comply with regulations and achieve their business goals.

Building on her broad Global Capital Markets and Global Mergers & Acquisitions practice, Jones launched the firm’s global Blockchain Group in early 2017 to leverage the firm’s diverse legal talent and centralize and manage its blockchain practice. Now comprising more than 80 attorneys working across multiple legal disciplines, it handles matters in key financial centers globally. The team advises on virtually all legal aspects of a blockchain platform, including the smart contracts critical to its function and the structuring of tokens or cryptocurrencies necessary for its operation.

Jones serves on the Global FinTech Advisory Board for the Government of Bermuda, which explores ways to incorporate blockchain and cryptocurrency into the government’s payment system and develop a blockchain friendly jurisdiction for entrepreneurs, exchanges, and commercial enterprises.

In 2018, Jones was named a Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and FinTech Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. She has also received awards from Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 for her work in Fintech.
