Greenberg Traurig Bolsters Labor & Employment Practice in California with Addition of Timothy Long

SACRAMENTO and LOS ANGELES July 18, 2019 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues to expand its employment capabilities on the west coast with the addition of Timothy Long as a Labor & Employment Practice shareholder in the firm’s Sacramento and Los Angeles offices. Long has deep experience litigating complex labor and employment issues, having served as lead counsel in multiple class, collective, and representative actions, and advising on dozens more. He joins the firm from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.

“We are pleased to continue to grow our California L&E presence with the addition of Tim to Greenberg Traurig only months after landing another leading practitioner, Chuck Thompson,” said Chuck Birenbaum, Chairman of Northern California and Co-Chair of the firm’s Labor-Management Relations group.

Mark D. Kemple, Co-Chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Class and Collective Action Practice, who leads the Southern California Labor & Employment Practice, added: “Tim’s employment litigation capabilities coupled with his wide-ranging experience handling traditional labor relations matters will be an asset to our team and our clients.”

Long’s clients include financial institutions, health care-related entities, entertainment companies, airlines, retailers, high-tech companies, and transportation and logistics companies. He litigates wage-and-hour matters, including exemption, incentive compensation, independent contractor, off-the-clock, and pay practice claims, employment discrimination and wrongful termination claims, as well as trade secrets. He provides counsel on corporate matters from an employment perspective, and often advises entertainment industry employers on emerging issues. Long has both prosecuted and defended employers in trade secret and unfair business practices litigation. He has also represented clients in matters involving competitor efforts to enjoin their lawful practices.

“Tim is a highly-regarded attorney who enhances our ability to advise multinational companies on today’s most complex and challenging employment law matters,” said Brian L. Duffy, Greenberg Traurig Chief Executive Officer. “His addition to the labor and employment team is in line with our strategy of growing across the firm in areas of interest to our clients.”

Long represents employers before state and federal administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Labor, the California Department of Fair Employment & Housing, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and Employment Development Department. He also conducts workplace investigations and audits.

Throughout his career, he has litigated dozens of traditional labor disputes, representing clients in courts, before the National Labor Relations Board, and in private arbitration. He also advises clients on labor relations issues that arise in mergers and acquisitions.

“I have long been familiar with Greenberg Traurig’s Labor & Employment Practice and its deep bench,” Long said. “As I represent both national and international clients, I am looking forward to leveraging and collaborating across the firm’s global platform to utilize its full range of resources and services for clients.”

Long received his J.D., with great distinction, from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, and his B.A. from Stanford University.

In addition to Long and Thompson, the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice in California has continued to expand this year with the addition of Associate Yoon-Woo Nam in Sacramento.
