Effective June 22, 2020, Massachusetts moves into Step 2 of Phase 2 of the Four-Phase Reopening Plan. Businesses permitted to reopen in Step 2 can resume operations under their sector-specific guidance. In addition, prior to opening, the business must meet all safety standards, create a COVID-19 control plan, and complete a self-certification.
As addressed in our previous alert, Phase 2 brought a number of updated guidelines for businesses across the Commonwealth. With Step 2, Gov. Baker’s administration has provided updated sector-specific rules for the following:
- Safety Standards and Checklist for Office Spaces permits offices to increase occupancy from 25% to 50% of the maximum capacity; workers must continue to telework if feasible.
- Safety Standards and Checklist for Close Contact Personal Services permits massage and body treatments, hair services, skin care services, nail care services, makeup salons, personal trainers, tanning salons, and body art services to open.
- Safety Standards and Checklist for Restaurants permits restaurants to offer indoor table service with tables at least six feet apart and no more than six people per table.
- Safety Standards and Checklist for Retail Businesses permits the operation of fitting rooms on an appointment basis only.
