On June 14, 2010, the Department of Treasury, Labor and Health and Human Services issued interim final regulations implementing rules for group health plans and health insurance coverage in the group and individual markets regarding status of a "grandfathered" health plan under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Understanding the impact of these changes will be extremely important to employers. Plans (or more accurately benefit options) granted grandfathered plan status are exempt from several new health reform insurance requirements.
