WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sept. 7, 2022 — Three Greenberg Traurig, LLP attorneys, Jeffery M. Chiow, Paul F. McQuade, and Melissa P. Prusock, were appointed to leadership positions within the American Bar Association (ABA)’s Section of Public Contract Law.
The leadership roles, which will cover the 2022-2023 term, coincide with the recent growth of Greenberg Traurig’s Government Contracts Practice. The practice added six lawyers within the past year, including Chiow as shareholder and several associates and law clerks, adding capacity to the busy practice. In particular, the additions bolster the Government Contracts Practice’s strength in national security, investigations/litigation, and the aerospace industry.
The Greenberg Traurig lawyers appointed to ABA leadership positions include:
- Chiow, who has held numerous ABA leadership positions over the years, was named co-chair of the ABA’s Acquisition Reform & Emerging Issues Committee and vice chair of its Legislative & Regulatory Coordinating and Battlespace & Contingency Procurements committees.
Chiow represents clients in litigation and government investigations related to government contracts and has handled hundreds of federal and state bid protests, many with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. He is a skilled lawyer in the thriving space sector with deep experience in aerospace and defense, as well as cybersecurity, technology services contracting, and schedule contracting. Chiow helps government contractors to develop tailored strategies for addressing complex business, legal, and regulatory issues. In particular, he has wide-ranging experience in the constantly evolving area of cybersecurity, including compliance with the Department of Defense’s cyber and supply chain requirements and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification initiative and related investigations and disclosures.
- McQuade was selected to continue his service as a vice chair on the Intellectual Property Committee.
McQuade has served as vice chair of this committee for several terms. He is a patent attorney with substantial government contracts experience, with a practice that includes typical commercial intellectual property (IP) work with an emphasis on licensing and IP-related transactions, and “government contracts IP” (rights in technical data and software) in the context of prime/subcontractor agreements, strategic counseling on how best to maintain one’s IP when doing business with the government, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, other transactions, and Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer awards. He is a frequent lecturer on IP in U.S. government contracting.
- Prusock was named a vice chair of the Procurement Fraud and False Claims Committee, the Grant Law Committee, and the Debarment and Suspension Committee.
Prusock focuses her practice on investigations, litigation, and counseling related to federal government contracts and grants. Her substantial civil and criminal government investigations experience includes representing federal contractors and award recipients in False Claims Act matters (including qui tam actions) and Office of Inspector General audits and investigations. Prusock also regularly represents clients in suspension and debarment proceedings, counsels clients in connection with internal investigations and mandatory disclosures, and assists clients with assessing, developing, and implementing compliance programs.
