BOSTON – July 12, 2022 – Greenberg Traurig, LLP Shareholder David G. Thomas and Associates Angela C. Bunnell and Stephanie Peral will present the myLawCLE webinar, “Understanding the TCPA and Avoiding/Defending TCPA Litigation,” July 13th at noon.
The webinar will discuss the structure, scope, and common compliance mistakes of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and methods for avoiding and defending TCPA litigation, particularly TCPA class actions. The panel will discuss topics such as the TCPA structure, state TCPA statutes, do-not-call claims and other litigation trends, and forming online contracts, arbitration, and vendor indemnification.
Thomas serves as co-chair of the firm’s Litigation Group in the Boston office. He is a litigation, trial, and appellate attorney focusing on defending companies against unfair or deceptive business practices claims in individual and putative class action settings. Thomas’ practice includes representing companies accused of violating the TCPA and similar state laws and regulations. In addition, he represents clients facing false advertising claims arising out of alleged violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes; businesses facing predatory lending and unfair servicing claims arising out of the Truth in Lending Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and state laws governing consumer financing and mortgage loan servicing; entities accused of submitting false claims to the government or governmental payors; as well as companies and individuals accused of misappropriating or divulging confidential intellectual property, including trade secrets, customer lists, and other protected information.
Bunnell is a member of the Litigation Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Boston office. Her practice focuses on defending companies against unfair or deceptive business practices claims in individual and putative class action settings. She also represents companies and individuals responding to civil investigative demands under various regulatory schemes, including federal and state false claims acts and related enforcement actions brought by federal and state regulatory agencies. Bunnell also has experience with complex eDiscovery matters, and has been responsible for preservation, collection, review, and production of electronically stored information in state and federal lawsuits. She also has experience representing clients in connection with data security and privacy matters.
Peral represents clients in complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, and consumer class actions. She is also experienced in representing clients during internal investigations and in enforcement actions. Peral has litigated matters in both state and federal courts involving contract disputes, breaches of fiduciary duties, fraud, and claims under the TCPA. In addition, she has represented clients in connection with investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Communications Commission Office of Inspector General. As a member of the firm’s eDiscovery group, Peral handles and coordinates multijurisdictional and multinational discovery matters, including document collections, reviews, and productions.
