Greenberg Traurig has advised Heimstaden Bostad, one of the largest European housing companies, on its acquisition of the Akelius Group in Germany, Sweden and Denmark. The purchase price is 9.1 billion Euros.
The residential portfolios are located in five big European cities: Berlin (14,050 apartments), Hamburg (3,592), Stockholm (5,934), Malmö (4,107), and Copenhagen (1,093). Heimstaden will also be taking over the employees for the management of these portfolios. In Germany, the Scandinavian housing group thus grows from currently some 7,000 to around 25,000 apartments. The acquisition of the Akelius Group in Germany, Sweden and Denmark is subject to cartel clearance and scheduled to close later this year.
Background: Greenberg Traurig has been advising Heimstaden on several acquisitions since its entry into the German market in 2020, inter alia on the acquisition of some 3,900 apartments in Berlin in September 2020.
