WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oct. 26, 2018 — Kara M. Bombach, a shareholder in the Export Controls & Economic Sanctions Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will speak at the 7th Annual Hotel and Lodging Legal Summit Oct. 26 at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. Real Estate Shareholder Nelson F. Migdal, co-chair of the Hospitality Practice, as well as real estate associates Nicholas N. Palmer and Rosemarie Salguero will also attend the summit. The event will explore allocation of risk among three major communities within the hotel and lodging industry: owners, brand companies, and management companies, as well as lenders and insurance companies that serve these communities.
Bombach will participate as a panelist in a session titled, “OFAC Compliance: Considerations for the Hotel Industry.” The discussion will focus on what the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations and sanctions are and how they can impact the hotel industry; how the OFAC regulations specifically affect transactional documents, such as representations and warranties; and what ongoing OFAC compliance obligations hotel owners and operators have after the parties have completed a transaction.
Bombach assists companies to lawfully export goods, technology, and services around the globe. She emphasizes helping clients achieve practical, workable solutions to complex regulatory situations arising under anti-corruption and anti-bribery measures (U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and OECD Convention), export control laws (EAR and ITAR), anti-boycott laws, and special sanctions (embargoes) maintained by the U.S. government (OFAC and other agencies) against various countries (including Iran, Cuba and Sudan), entities and individuals. Bombach regularly represents clients in matters before U.S. government agencies, including the U.S. Departments of Commerce, State, Treasury, and Defense.
Migdal serves as an advisory board member, a position he’s had since the Hotel and Lodging Legal Summit’s inception, as well as on the 2018 Planning Committee for the event. He focuses his practice on the acquisition and disposition of hotels, hotel operations and management, franchising, licensing and branding, development and finance, large mixed-use projects, hotel management agreements, licensing agreements, commercial real estate acquisition and sale, and commercial leasing.
Greenberg Traurig is also a sponsor of the 7th Annual Hotel and Lodging Legal Summit.
