BOSTON — Aug. 25, 2015 — Barbara A. Jones, Corporate & Securities shareholder at international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, won two national championship titles at the 2015 U.S. Rowing Masters’ Nationals Championships, Aug. 13-16 in Camden, New Jersey.
This year’s championships were the largest in U.S. rowing history, with over 2,000 athletes competing. Racing as a member of Chinook Performance Racing, Jones won the national championship in the women’s double sculls (F) and women’s coxed eights (F), in hotly contested 1,000 meter races that included fending off former U.S. Olympic and national team members by tight one-second margins. Jones also captured a silver medal in the women’s straight (coxless) four (F) and a bronze in the women’s quadruple sculls (F). The wins are all the more impressive given that Jones has only been rowing since 2012, inspired by her son, Benjamin, who rowed for Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Massachusetts and then at Cornell University.
In 2013, Jones competed in her first Head of the Charles Regatta in a single scull, placing fifth in a highly competitive field. In addition to training for the upcoming Head of the Charles race, Jones is now preparing to compete at the World Rowing Masters Championships in Belgium in September 2015. Jones is a member of the Cambridge Boat Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts and trains under Head Coach Boris Kusturic.
