MIAMI – (Sept. 3, 2014) – The International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP was selected to receive the “Global M&A Deal of Year - Latin America/Mexico” Award by The American Lawyer for the firm’s role in the sale of Satélites Mexicanos, S.A. de C.V. (“Satmex”) to Eutelsat Communications (“Eutelsat”), the French leading satellite operator.
The direct and indirect acquisition of 100 percent of Satmex by Eutelsat was valued at $831 million USD. This is the first significant transaction completed following the constitutional amendments, which entered into force in Mexico in June 2013. These changes allowed for 100% direct foreign investment participation in telecommunications, including satellite services.
Greenberg Traurig’s Mexico City office represented Satmex as well as its shareholders in all Mexican law-related matters through each phase of the transaction. The Greenberg Traurig team was led by Mexico City shareholders, assisted by Associate Luis Alberto Torres of the Mexico City office and Shareholder Randy A. Bullard, Chair of the Miami Corporate and Securities Practice.
“Our ability to work seamless across borders, as one firm, truly sets us apart. This recognition of Greenberg Traurig’s capabilities in the region truly speaks to the power of collaboration and experience,” said Patricia Menéndez-Cambó, Chair of the firm's 200-plus member Global Practice Group and Co-Chair of the Global Energy and Infrastructure Practice Group.
The American Lawyer’s “2014 Global Legal Awards” aim to honor all law offices, including in-house departments, that played a substantial role in the most distinguished cross-border work performed between Jan. 1, 2013, and April 14, 2014, across a wide range of disciplines.
Four grand prize winners — in Global M&A, Global Finance, Global Disputes and Global Citizenship — will be announced by the publication at an awards dinner on Sept. 15 at Gotham Hall in New York City.
