Greenberg Traurig Wins Third Annual Law Rocks Miami in Support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami

MIAMI – Nov. 22, 2024 – For the third consecutive year, the house band of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., The Meltones, won the annual Law Rocks Miami battle of the bands at Gramps in Miami Nov. 21. The Meltones raised more than $45,000 in sponsorship and donations to help support Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS).

“Big Brothers Big Sisters, one of our community’s greatest organizations, plays a critical role in making sure children and teens from underprivileged backgrounds have the mentorship they need to succeed,” said Greenberg Traurig Miami office Co-Managing Shareholders Jaret L. Davis and Yosbel A. Ibarra, who introduced The Meltones to the stage along with President and CEO of BBBS of Miami Gale Nelson. “At Greenberg Traurig, we are focused on supporting organizations like BBBS that make Miami a better place for all and are changing the lives of young people.”

The firm has been a supporter of BBBS of Miami for more than 20 years. Greenberg Traurig was the first law firm in Miami to serve as a corporate School to Work mentoring partner, guiding local students to help them complete their education and enter college or the workplace. Greenberg Traurig Senior Chairman Matthew B. Gorson also served two terms as chairman of BBBS Miami and has served on the board for more than a decade.

After delivering a high-energy performance on stage, The Meltones emerged as the overall winning band based on sponsorship dollars raised, ticket sales, and judges’ score. In addition, The Meltones won the Law Rocks “Hustle and Heart” award for the largest number of individual donations.

Members of The Meltones band in Miami included three attorneys from the Miami office: Real Estate Shareholder Burt Bruton, one of the original Meltones members, on guitar and vocals; Litigation Shareholder Jessica Johnson Fishfeld on vocals; and Real Estate Associate Josh Tartell on guitar. Albany Government Law & Policy Shareholder Christopher A. Cernik was on keyboard. They were backed by local Miami musicians Larry Misrahi on bass and vocals and Joe Arencibia on drums.

Law Rocks Global promotes music education for underprivileged youth and raises money for local nonprofit organizations. The Meltones, named after firm co-founder Mel Greenberg, has been the Greenberg Traurig house band since the mid-1980s. Law Rocks Miami raised over $110,000 for the sponsored charities, a new Miami record.

In October, The Meltones also won their 9th consecutive title in Law Rocks New York, raising more than $66,000 in sponsorship and donations for Lawyers Alliance for New York.
