Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Speak at The Legal 500 GC Summit Mexico 2022

MEXICO CITY – June 24, 2022 – Members of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s White Collar Defense & Special Investigations Practice spoke at TheLegal 500 GC Summit Mexico 2022. The event, sponsored by Greenberg Traurig, took place June 23 in Mexico City.

Panelists included Carolina Machado, associate general counsel - Latin America at Uber, and Karla Valenzuela, general counsel - consumer and regulatory at Citibanamex.

Pedro Javier Reséndez Bocanegra, a member of the firm’s Mexico City office Corporate Governance & Compliance Practice, moderated a panel titled “Mexico’s Compliance Landscape: Addressing the Effect of Recent Political, Economic and Public Health Challenges.” Panelists included Miami office Shareholder and former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Benjamin G. Greenberg and Washington, D.C. Shareholder Kyle R. Freeny, former federal prosecutor for the Special Counsel’s Office and the Department of Justice (DOJ) Criminal Division’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section (MLARS). Panelists discussed anti-corruption and anti-money laundering investigations and trends, the effects of remote work on compliance, and actions in-house lawyers can take moving forward.

Reséndez Bocanegra has broad experience representing companies in infrastructure and energy projects in Mexico and Latin America in governmental affairs, corporate and regulatory matters, compliance, and internal investigations.

Greenberg is a highly experienced litigator who represents corporations and individuals in criminal and civil government investigations involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, health care fraud, SEC matters, financial institution fraud, money laundering, and the False Claims Act. His clients include private equity funds, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, banks, health care providers, and international companies in the technology, financial services, and investment space. He also conducts internal corporate investigations and advises clients on a wide array of compliance and regulatory issues. Greenberg is also a veteran trial attorney who has tried more than 20 cases to verdict in federal court.

Freeny focuses her practice on white collar criminal defense, government and internal investigations, and anti-money laundering and international corruption matters. She was one of 19 prosecutors selected by Robert S. Mueller III to conduct the high-profile investigation into alleged Russian election interference, coordination between Russian officials and the Trump campaign, and related matters. As assistant special counsel, Freeny played a lead role in federal tax and bank fraud investigations, as well as a money laundering investigation into the funding of Russian intelligence cyber intrusions during the 2016 Presidential election using cryptocurrency.
