ATLANTA – Nov. 3, 2020 – Lori G. Cohen, vice chair of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was honored at Corporate Counsel Magazine’s Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards. Cohen was recognized as a thought leader in the legal profession during a virtual event held Oct. 28, 2020. She is featured in a special report by the publication honoring those who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in law.
According to the publication, the Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards recognize women who are leading by example in the legal industry and in doing so demonstrating a commitment to diversity and empowerment of women in law. The annual awards honor top women lawyers who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession by shaping the law, achieving outsized results for their clients, being an outstanding jurist, or assisting those in need of legal services.
In an industry where two-thirds of all attorneys in civil cases are men and only a quarter of women serve as lead or trial counsel, Cohen stands out as a female leader and a champion of developing the next generation of attorneys. Nationally recognized for her extraordinary trial record of 57 defense verdicts, Cohen has for years built highly successful global attorney teams staffed and led by talented women and diverse litigators. Their track record of wins, reputation for creative strategy, and acumen in managing the most complex and voluminous litigation is why Cohen’s teams are repeatedly tapped to represent many of the world’s top corporations.
In addition to her role as vice chair of the firm, Cohen is also co-chair of the firm’s Global Litigation Practice, the chair of the Greenberg Traurig’s Trial Practice Group, along with chair of GT’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Group. Cohen leads a global practice that focuses on complex litigation of all types, including products liability and pharmaceutical, medical device, and health care litigation. Cohen has served as national, regional, and trial counsel for numerous medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, handling all types of litigation, including class actions, multidistrict litigation, and trials nationally. Cohen and her team routinely take complex cases to trial and win, including some of the most complex mass torts in history. Well known for her record of winning high-stakes trials, Cohen is often called up to "parachute in" at the last minute before trial, especially in challenging cases in dangerous jurisdictions.
For her leadership and participation in efforts to advance the careers of women and diverse attorneys, Cohen has been recognized with numerous accolades, including Emory Law School’s prestigious Eléonore Raoul Trailblazer Award, given to a female Emory alumna who has blazed a trail for others through professional and personal endeavors.
