NEW YORK – Oct. 27, 2020 – Richard A. Edlin, Vice Chair of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP and Chair of the firm’s New York Litigation Practice and Business & Regulatory Financial Services Litigation Group, has been named the 2020 John J. McCloy Memorial Award honoree by The Fund for Modern Courts. Greenberg Traurig sponsored the virtual reception held Oct. 26, where Edlin was recognized.
The John J. McCloy Memorial Award recognizes lawyers who have made outstanding contributions to improving the administration of justice in New York State. The award is named in honor of John J. McCloy, who served as Chair of the Fund and Committee for Modern Courts from 1961-1978.
Edlin is a trial lawyer with broad experience in both trial and appellate courts including the U.S. Supreme Court and the Delaware Supreme Court. He has successfully tried numerous cases in federal and state courts all over the country and has handled a variety of domestic and international arbitrations. He is described in Chambers and Partners “brilliant” and “one of the best trial lawyers I have ever seen,” possessing a “broad range of knowledge” and “a wonderful ability to prepare witnesses.” In 2019, The National Law Journal recognized Mr. Edlin as a “Master of the Courtroom.”
Edlin is active in various legal and charitable organizations and was recently selected to serve as a member of Chief Judge Janet DeFiore’s Commission for the Reimagining of the New York Courts. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Historical Society of the New York Courts, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Urban Justice Center, a member of the Board of Directors for Judges and Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert, among various other organizations.
