Edgar Olvera Elected to Federal Telecommunications Institute Consulting Board

MEXICO CITYOct. 3, 2022 – Greenberg Traurig shareholder Edgar Olvera, head of the Telecommunications, Media, and Technology (TMT) Practice in the firm’s Mexico City office, has been elected to the VII Consulting Board of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT) in Mexico. This election was made by IFT’s Plenary Session, where they unanimously approved his appointment along with other high executive members.

In his role at the firm, Olvera serves diverse client profiles in the TMT sector, including infrastructure providers and developers, governments, OTTs, telecommunications service operators, equipment and software providers for networks and end users, AI developers, entertainment producers, content producers and providers and radio and television companies, satellite operators, among others. He also works with clients related to road infrastructure, electric power, potable water, and public procurement.

Olvera has over 25 years of experience working on matters related to the telecommunications sector, infrastructure projects, consumer protection, and administrative law. Olvera has been a leader in multidisciplinary teams and on highly complex projects at his previous positions within Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transportation, and the Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO).

In his previous role as Undersecretary of Communications for Mexico’s Ministry of Communication and Transportation (MCT), Olvera participated in the design and implementation of Mexico’s recent telecommunications reforms. He spearheaded the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) negotiations in this sector, and fostered infrastructure investments by promoting infrastructure projects from the Federal Government (rights of ways, poles and federal buildings).
