Veteran Philadelphia Litigator and Legal Leader Joins Greenberg Traurig

A. Michael Pratt, former chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, past president of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc., brings rich litigation experience and practice to expanding office.

PHILADELPHIA Sept. 3, 2019 – Deepening its local reach, global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has added noted Philadelphia lawyer, A. Michael Pratt, to its Philadelphia office as a shareholder. His complex commercial and financial services litigation practice further augments the 50-attorney office.

“Mike exemplifies the kind of lawyer we want for this office – someone with strong legal prowess, leadership, and civic presence,” said Philadelphia Managing Shareholder Curtis B. Toll. “He brings a high level of skill and commitment to clients and to building our next generation of attorneys. That sense of service fits perfectly with our strategic vision and our brand.”

Pratt, who served as the 81st chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, spent the bulk of his legal career as a partner at Pepper Hamilton LLP. Previous professional roles include serving as a litigation chief for a Fortune 100 company and as a chief deputy city solicitor charged with overseeing the commercial litigation division at the City of Philadelphia’s Law Department.

“The international platform Greenberg Traurig offers aligns well with my client base and my next chapter of service in the legal profession and to the Philadelphia area,” Pratt said. “As I grew to understand the vision for this office, reviewed the broader philosophy and operations of the firm, and came to know the vast arsenal of talented attorneys here, joining Greenberg Traurig made perfect business and personal sense to me. I look forward to expanding my practice and continuing my contributions to the community where I live and work.”

A sampling of his previous civic engagements ranges from an appointment as a commissioner on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to board roles at Community Legal Services Inc., the Defender Association of Philadelphia, and the Committee of Seventy to president of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc to volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania. He remains a member of the Board of Trustees of Washington & Jefferson College and of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

“Mike brings a multitude of sharp litigation skills to Greenberg Traurig – from complex commercial and product liability to financial service to pharmaceutical and medical device to governmental matters. We look forward to introducing his experience to clients in a cross-section of sectors,” said Greenberg Traurig’s Global Litigation Practice Co-Chairs Lori G. Cohen and Jeff E. Scott in a joint statement.

Twice named an Acritas StarTM, a nominations-based rating of some 4,000-plus senior in-house counsel across the globe, Pratt holds a JD from Harvard Law School and graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a dual economics and English degree. He supplemented his education with a Rotary International Foundation Fellowship for study at the University of Stockholm’s International Graduate School, focusing on economics and international relations.
